For the U.S. military, choices are listed on the Authorized Protective Eyewear List (APEL).). The history of protective eyewear goes back to 1880 and extends through to World War I and the present. There are three standards that are currently used to test the effectiveness of ballistic eyewear. These include a U.S. civilian standard (ANSI Z87.1 – 2010), a U.S. military standard (MIL-PRF-31013), and a European standard (EN166, 169, 170 & 172).

So you want to live on Hilton Head Island. Businesses and contractors seem to believe islanders lack intelligence or have more money than brains. Recently, I requested bids for a new roof with five local companies responding. Local funeral home: $3,200. Palmetto Cremation Society in Charleston: $650. Eyeglass prescription refill on Hilton Head: twice the cost of same lenses at a chain store in Bluffton. Stucco repair quotes were anywhere from three to five times higher with local contractors than other qualified contractors off-island. Sooner or later, islanders will wise up and local contractors will suffer as a result of their avarice.
