You could pay well upwards of $200 for prescription glasses - $500 and up with a designer frame - or you could pay under $100, possibly under $50, when buying glasses online. Understand this: if you want designer frames, you will pay. But that has nothing to do with vision, although it may impact how others see you (at least the buyers of designer frames believe so). Splurging on designer frames is your call. If you feel better putting on $500+ glasses - and know that insurance rarely covers more than a tiny fraction of a big eyeglass spend - there is no denying that pleasure. Lately there are many more online eyeglass sellers tempting us with discount prices. Many consumers are very happy with discount glasses. Many eye experts concede that for at least some consumers, discount specs work.

Extra Optical is a discount eyewear provider that sells eyeglasses manufactured in Asia. Tracking the shipped glasses on their way to customers has proved challenging for the company, says Øystein Sandø, Extra Optical's CEO. The firm sells as many as 2,500 to 3,000 pairs of glasses during a busy month, with each pair typically shipped in a small package. If the company were to sign up for an option that tracks packages by scanning the bar code printed on each parcel's shipping label, he explains, it would pay the same rate as those shipping two kilos of goods, even though a pair of eyeglasses...

10 cheap eyewear and sunglasses stores in Toronto

Cheap eyewear and sunglasses in Toronto don't necessarily mean skimping on quality - though, as with anything involving your eyes, you want to exercise some caution. Cheap glasses for the short-sighted

THERE'S nothing blurry about the opinion of the city's independent optometrists: if you buy cheap spectacles, you'll get an inferior pair of glasses. Many smaller, higher-priced optometrists say they are appalled by the quality of cut-price spectacles being sold by big-buying chain players, including Specsavers, Big W and Costco. Can you see the real cost behind these glasses? They say complex, finely tuned medical aids have been reduced to nothing more than retail items and consumers...
