Revision Eyewear designs, develops, and manufactures ballistic protective eyewear for military and tactical clients.
In February 2001, Revision Eyewear was founded in Montreal, Canada, as a performance eyewear company that catered to the sporting market. In September 2003, the company was awarded a multi-million dollar contract to provide 80,000 pairs of Sawfly ballistic protective eyewear to the Canadian Department of National Defense (DND). In a report from Madeline Buxton (at Refinery29) , the case for the current development of a Snapchat version of Google Glass is eloquently put forward. Because the hires all relate to “actual hardware designs,” rather than content aimed at smart eyewear or virtual reality (as you might otherwise have expected). That suggests Snapchat is building an actual hardware product, that it’s actually going to, well, sell. Yet as Buxton adds, one does not simply create a piece of smart eyewear. As Google’s Glass efforts showed, the world arguably just isn’t ready for that kind of technology, and Snapchat could indeed have “an uphill battle” if it’s hoping to develop a wearable product of this nature.

If the mass market is going to be successfully sold on the idea of wearing augmented reality glasses, it could do worse than look to Lumus for design inspiration. If you’ve been waiting (semi) patiently for consumer AR to arrive in a less geeky form-factor, there’s some good news. Out in the...
