On January 29, I had a chance to attend a great event, the dawn of a new era in the Ottawa fashion scene. On this night, I attended the official launch party of The Exclusives PR. They are the city’s first PR firm catering to the fashion industry. They offer social media, event planning, production and media relations to magazines, boutiques, stylists, designers, etc. The night was a great one, characterized by a gathering of a variety of players in the Ottawa fashion scene. It was great to meet and mingle with a variety of them. I had a chance to interview the dynamic young founder of The Exclusives, Naira Fragoso da Costa. My name is Naira, I’m 20 years old. I have been wanting to be a fashion journalist/PR since I was 12 years.

Shades and Specs

All about my favourite picks for sunnies and specs for the inner hipster in all of us. In all seriousness, I wanted to list some awesome, trendy sunglasses and frames that are absolutely fabulous and worth checking out especially if you are into... You might ask why did I specifically choose this very topic – well I am an optometrist by day (superhero beauty blogger by night :P) who is passionate about eye health and obsessed with the many faces of eye wear. Not only have sunglasses been a huge fashion statement piece for decades, there is actually a very good reason to wear them. It can lead to quicker progression of eye diseases such as cataracts and increase risks for Age-Related Macular Degeneration. Not to mention the growth it can cause on the “white” part of eye known as the conjunctiva as well.

NHL Plans League-Wide Optical Player, Puck Tracking for 2019-20 Season

At the NHL’s most recent ownership meetings, commissioner Gary Bettman revealed plans for a  league-wide player and puck tracking system that, importantly, will be non-invasive and not require skaters to wear any transmitting chips as they did during a trial at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.Bettman acknowledged that more research and development work is needed to cater such a system to the specific needs of hockey but said the hope is to have an operational program in place for the...

The school of hard Knox: A neglected Toronto architectural centrepiece gets its due

Toronto has squandered much of its architectural heritage. Dozens of grand old buildings fell to the wrecker's ball in the postwar rush to modernize and renew the city. So when a building that somehow survived the years of careless destruction gets a makeover, and a brilliant one at that, the only thing to do is stand up and cheer. The new home for the University of Toronto's architecture school at 1 Spadina Crescent is the kind of little miracle that makes it possible to believe that Toronto...
