SpecsOnTheNet is an online supplier of prescription glasses. A UK company founded in 2003 by Mark James and Jonathan Birch it was one of the first companies to supply prescription eyewear on the Internet and pioneered the use of virtual modelling software to allow customers to virtually "try on" glasses.
By supplying glasses direct from the laboratory and avoiding the overheads associated with running a high street store, SpecsOnTheNet is able to offer the same frames and lenses as a traditional optician but at substantially lower cost. This was made possible by the deregulation of the UK optical market in the 1980s.

Snapchat is reportedly going to try and do what even Google could not: Cnet reports that the company is filling its war chests with experts in the wearable field in hopes of making smart glasses people will actually want to wear. and Eitan Pilipski comes from a company that created virtual reality experiences. We imagine these three coming together like the Justice League and using their separate, but equally necessary, powers to try and create the perfect pair of smart glasses. Hiring a virtual reality expert like Eitan means that there could be some sort of option to implement Snapchat's wildly popular filters into the glasses.
