A UK company founded in 2003 by Mark James and Jonathan Birch it was one of the first companies to supply prescription eyewear on the Internet and pioneered the use of virtual modelling software to allow customers to virtually "try on" glasses.
By supplying glasses direct from the laboratory and avoiding the overheads associated with running a high street store, SpecsOnTheNet is able to offer the same frames and lenses as a traditional optician but at substantially lower cost. This was made possible by the deregulation of the UK optical market in the 1980s.
