In fact, eye symptoms due to screen usage have become so common that a new name has been coined: "Computer Vision Syndrome" or CVS. CVS is really common – in fact between 50 and 90 per cent of people who work at a computer screen report some degree of eye symptoms. You are more likely to get CVS as you age because the lens in the eye becomes less flexible and less able to adjust. You are also more at risk of CVS if you have an underlying eye problem, such as short-sidedness, especially if you don't wear the correct glasses to compensate for it. The symptoms of CVS can include:. • "Tired" eyes, especially after prolonged periods of screen usage. • Irritation and discomfort of the eyes. In the initial stages, CVS tends to be exacerbated during the working week, and to ease off at weekends, but as symptoms progress they may eventually occur every day.
