Quality Eye Frames

Constant Rate Factor (CRF) is a x264's single-pass encoding method.
Constant quality encoding usually keeps up a constant quality by compressing every frame of the same type the same amount. In technical speak, that's maintaining a constant quantization parameter (QP). Constant Rate Factor, on the other hand, compresses different frames by different amounts. It does this by taking motion into account.
The eye perceives more detail in still objects than when they're in motion. Because of this, a video compressor can apply more compression (drop more detail) when things are moving, and apply less compression (retain more detail) when things are still. Subjectively, the video will seem to have higher quality.
Constant Quantization Parameter (CQP) mostly don't produce...

Fortunately the bird, although quick and flighty, didn't seem at all nervous about having a human close by. The 40-150mm mZuiko Pro lens, with a film equivalent focal length of 90-300, was ideal for the job. The essence of good bird photography is to get the eye and feather detail in sharp focus. Using wide matrix auto focus is not going to do the job. Precise focus on the eye can only be achieved with single spot auto focus. Bird photos that impress are almost always taken from either the same level as the subject or a little above. The aim is to get eye.

The micro four-thirds camera format debuted in 2008 and was immediately a hit. While the smaller micro four-thirds sensor means the image quality suffers a bit, most photographers were willing to forgo the extra megapixels for a lightweight camera they could take anywhere. Even as the micro four thirds standard has matured and these cameras’ capabilities have blossomed, that travel-friendly portability has remained one of the main selling points. Tired Loses the lightweight, highly-portable advantage that makes micro four thirds so appealing. Image quality gains aren't as large as the jump in sensor resolution would lead one to assume.

How a Millennial Is Keeping a 100-Year-Old Eyewear Brand On-Trend

Zack Moscot was not yet 8 years old when he had a screaming tantrum about his professional future. “I don’t wanna join the business!” wailed the fifth-generation member of the family behind Moscot, the venerable New York eyewear company. His great-great-grandfather Hyman Moscot founded the shop in 1915, turning a pushcart stocked with ready-made glasses into an optical landmark known for its bright yellow sign and low-key style. “I didn’t know what I wanted to do,” Zack says, looking back. “I...

Potionomics is brewing up Pixar-quality art and animation

Potionomics originally caught my eye while I was scrolling through the #screenshotsaturday hashtag on Twitter, where indie developers post screenshots and gifs of games either finished or in progress. I don't remember which gif it was that stopped me in my scrolling tracks, but a look at their Twitter account will show that it could have been any one of them. Potionomics is a management game about a witch named Sylvia running a magic shop, currently being developed by Seattle indie...
