Glasses, also known as eyeglasses or spectacles, are frames bearing lenses worn in front of the eyes. They are normally used for vision correction. Safety glasses are a kind of eye protection against flying debris or against visible and near visible light or radiation. All of these characters and hundreds more have one trope in common: Dead or absent parents. Over the years, people have come up with extensive reasons as to why writers love removing parents from the lives of our heroes.
