Each Barbie, Ken, or Skipper variation was assigned to his or her own family, and each family had its own home in one of many book shelves we had re-gentrified into make-shift apartments. The Royal Family had permanent dibs on the one true “ Barbie Townhouse ” sanctioned by Mattel, that came with matching late ‘70s furniture and a functioning elevator you could lift and lower on a tiny delicate string like a set of blinds... Close relatives of the royal nucleus were bequeathed whatever other pieces of Barbie-sized furniture we’d acquired over the years, while the majority of the homes were furnished with “futons” deftly fashioned from our mom’s pillow cases and...

My love for the 60s has really grown lately - and to clarify I don't mean the early 60s where the styles still looked a lot like those of the late 50s, I'm particularly talking about the looks more traditionally associated with the decade. When Oxfam told me they were looking for bloggers to be the face of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, my first instinct was, of course, I'd want to be championing my first love, the 50s. But the more I thought about it, the more I kept returning to the... There's just so much to love about the 60s that goes so far beyond go-go boots and monochrome mini-dreses and I would love to raise awareness of the great styles from the decade. The 50s will always be a favourite among vintage fans, so it would be nice to show the world what the 60s can do. And just as with the 50s, there's simple ways to borrow as little or as much as you want from the era to put fun vintage twists into...

Bulging bug-eyed sunglasses haven't been exterminated for summer 2010, but they're not the buzz they've been over the past few years.Taking their place in the sun are squarer shapes, modified cat-eyes, vibrant color, animal-skin patterns and — above all — '80s looks.Carrera glasses, similar to the ones Don Johnson wore at times in "Miami Vice," are the hot sunglasses in music videos, said Eden Wexler, a spokeswoman for Solstice Sunglass Boutiques. Usher wears aviator-shape "Endurance"...
Here’s an understatement: the ‘80s were kind to the horror genre. Both on film and on the paperback spinners, horror flourished during the Reagan decade, as exemplified by Stephen King’s prolific output during the period. Unfortunately, King is one of the few authors whose output survived the ensuing horror bust, as the genre shrank back into its niche status and specialty publishers shuttered, leaving some publishing rights in limbo for years. That’s why King’s name is absent from the list...
Darryle Miller was just 20 years old in the summer of 2010 when he was killed for his Cartier sunglasses. Known to his mom as Little Darryle, the 6’6” former high school basketball star from Detroit had taken a 30-minute drive to Somerset Collection mall in Troy, Michigan earlier that summer to purchase the $2,400 pair of Cartier C Décor white buffalo horn frames, better known simply as “White Buffs.”Although they may seem frivolous to outsiders, Cartier glasses are a status symbol in the...
