Photochromic lens

Photochromic lens

Photochromic lenses are lenses that darken on exposure to specific types of light, most commonly ultraviolet radiation. Once the light source is removed, the lenses will gradually return to their clear state. Photochromic lenses may be made of glass, polycarbonate, or another plastic.
Photochromatic lenses contain millions of molecules of silver chloride or another silver halide embedded within them. These molecules are transparent to visible light in the absence of ultraviolet rays, which is normal for artificial lighting. When exposed to ultraviolet rays, as in direct sunlight, the molecules undergo a chemical process that causes them to change shape and absorb portions of the visible light, causing the lenses to darken. This process is reversible; once the lens is removed from...

New Collection of Innovative Photochromic Lenses Coming to Globaleyeglasses.com! - PR Web (press release)

ostuni salento puglia italy Photo by Verity Cridland on Flickr

com introduces a new range of photochromic eyeglasses that automatically darken when exposed to sunlight. Photochromic lenses solve the problem of having to constantly switch between prescription eyeglasses and shades. From now on customers will be able to choose almost any eyeglass frame with a matching photochromic lens. Not only are photochromic eyeglasses convenient but they also provide 100% protection for your eyes from harmful UV radiation. These lenses tint to a darker shade when exposed to UV rays and the more intense the radiation is, the darker photochromic eyeglasses will be. Thanks to this feature your eyes will always get the amount of shade and protection necessary at all... Overall, photochromic eyeglasses are a great.

Skugga sunglasses tint on command or automatically - Gizmag

In less than a year, electrochromic sunglasses have gone from being experimental to an actual product, with Dutch startup Ctrl announcing its tint-on-demand Ctrl One cycling glasses just this month. Electrochromic sunglasses are similar to traditional photochromic transition eyeglasses, in that their lenses automatically switch from clear to tinted when exposed to ultraviolet light. That said, while photochromic lenses take several seconds to make the change, electrochromic lenses do so instantly. Additionally, their users can switch between clear and tinted modes manually – this could be particularly useful in situations such as driving, in which photochromic lenses won't darken because they're shaded from the sunlight.

Fresh Goods Friday 371

Good morning! And welcome to this week’s edition of Fresh Goods Friday! You know, things are feeling a little more downtempo in the office this week, what with deadline looming for Issue #116, and the fact that sunny Autumn days appear to be slipping right through our fingers. Despite the gloom though, I’m feeling upbeat. Because from where I’m from, this time of year is the absolute worst time of year for cyclists. Road, urban, mountain or otherwise. That might seem counterintuitive, because...
