Two men have been arrested in connection with a break-in and the theft of weapons and other items from the trunk of a Pitt County Sheriff’s Office cruiser, the sheriff’s office reported.
Demitrius Juwane Barrett, 23, and Jarius Jaion Brown, 17, both of 103 Juniper Lane in Greenville, were charged with possession of stolen firearms in addition to drug violations. Both were placed in the Pitt County Detention Center, both under $1.024 million bonds.
The sheriff’s office issues a news release Thursday afternoon about the arrest. It said deputies made the arrests on Wednesday with help from the Greenville Police Department.
The release said the break-in occurred in September. A deputy was off duty an at his home when someone forced open the locked trunk of his vehicle and stole a rifle, shotgun, taser, hand-held radio and ballistic vest.
All items were recovered except for the radio at the time of arrest. Officers also found drugs were located in the Juniper Lane home, located off of Red Banks Road near 14th Street and The Memorial Baptist Church.
Barrett and Brown also were charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining drugs within 1,000 feet of a school. Barrett was charged with probation violation.
