My god, I would kill for a pair of those quintessentially 1980s sunglasses. #TOTP
I recently read a powerful and funny book on relationships in the modern world. Witty and eye-opening, the data and analysis presented in the book made it abundantly clear that while there are more options for people, we all experience the same issues on the journey. While I was reading this book, I was reflecting on songs about love and people. And love is a subject that isn’t scarce in the music world. There are songs about unrequited love, unconditional love, forbidden love, and just about every form of the feeling that makes the world go round. Chester’s antics – getting thrown to the top of a building, skydiving or riding a motorcycle off a bridge – changed over the years. Chester’s TV commercials went from a classic 1950s style, into a hand drawn animation (with computer generated backgrounds in the late 1990’s), and more recently Frito Lay rolled out a CG Chester interacting with real humans. Chester became the Chesterator (Terminator). A wrestler named Chester Piro, a construction worker, and even bungee.

The revolving glitter ball is back. In the dark of winter we worship it like the sun, and this year the druids at RTÉ have found more people who will be forced to dance for it until mid-spring, at which point we will, presumably, eat them.I already know who I want to win. By March I hope the glitterball will be replaced by Marty Morrissey’s twinkling face – it’s come a long way since it played the sun in Tellytubbies – and the word’s Dancing with the Stars will be scratched out and replaced...
Here’s an understatement: the ‘80s were kind to the horror genre. Both on film and on the paperback spinners, horror flourished during the Reagan decade, as exemplified by Stephen King’s prolific output during the period. Unfortunately, King is one of the few authors whose output survived the ensuing horror bust, as the genre shrank back into its niche status and specialty publishers shuttered, leaving some publishing rights in limbo for years. That’s why King’s name is absent from the list...
