Snapchat has developed over the years from a simple app you can send short videos and pictures with, to a platform where you can message, track and – of course – distort your face with the filters.

Among Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, Snapchat is one of the biggest social media platforms in the world.

Which makes it even more shocking that there are still so many things we do not know about it.

For example, users are always baffled by the emojis that show up next to certain Snapchat friends, asking what they mean.

Users of Snapchat have been asking on Twitter: “Does anyone know what the sunglass emoji means on snapchat because I have it for too many people I don't even talk to.”

The yellow love heart is the Snapchat equivalent of cementing a friendship as it means you’re best friends.

In other words, you send the most snaps to this person, and they send you the most.

Red Heart

Moving from the red heart takes the friendship or relationship even further.

The red heart means you have been each other’s ‘best friends’ for at least two weeks.

Pink Hearts

The red heart changes from pink to red if you’re been best friends for at least two months.

Grimace

The grimace face – also known as awkward face – means you share a best friend with someone.

Not only this, but your best friend (yellow heart) is also this person’s best friend.

A smile emoji means you are one of each other’s best friends, but not THE best friend.

Smirk

Smirk emoji is bound to stir up some drama.

The meaning of this emoji is that you are their best friend, but you are not there's.

Hourglass

Don’t get too excited about your streak if the hourglass emoji shows up, this means you’re running out of time to keep your streak alive.

Fire

Fire means you’re on a Snapchat running streak.

This appears next to the number of days that you and a friend have continually snapped each other.
